How to make realistic lighting in Roblox

Lighting is the fastest way to make a place look finished. The plugin switches your ground to grass and sets up atmosphere, sun rays, bloom and color correction in one step.

The realistic lighting prompt

Select the object in Studio first (or mention it with @), then send this. Change any words you like before sending.

Then keep talking to it

  1. 2Make it golden hour.
  2. 3Add light fog.
  3. 4Make the colors a bit more saturated.

What the AI builds

  • Lighting settings for brightness, shadows and time of day
  • Atmosphere, SunRays, Bloom and ColorCorrection effects
  • Grass material on the baseplate

How it works

This runs once while you edit, not during play: the plugin changes Lighting properties and adds post effects directly.

Existing effects are reused instead of duplicated, so asking again just adjusts the same ones.

Every value is a normal property, so you can fine-tune it in the Properties window afterwards.

How to make realistic lighting in Roblox, step by step

  1. 1

    Send the prompt

This one runs while you edit, not during play. The AI changes Lighting and adds effects directly in your place, so you see the new look in the viewport straight away, before you even press Play. There is no script to maintain afterwards.

  2. 2

    Ground

The baseplate switches to the Grass material with a natural green color, around #5a8f3a. Ask for real terrain grass and the AI fills terrain instead. If your map has no baseplate, tell the AI which part is the ground.

  3. 3

    Light

Brightness goes to about 2.5, shadows are on and soft, environment light is turned up and the time of day is set to late afternoon for warm, long shadows.

  4. 4

    Effects

Atmosphere adds haze and depth so distant objects fade naturally, SunRays adds light shafts when the camera faces the sun, Bloom adds a soft glow around bright surfaces and ColorCorrection adds a little saturation and contrast. If Lighting already has any of these effects, the AI adjusts them instead of adding a second copy, so asking again never stacks effects.

  5. 5

    Fine-tune

Ask for golden hour, light fog or more saturation. Or open Lighting in the Properties window and adjust any value yourself; nothing is locked. Lighting pairs well with a day and night cycle: set the look here first, then let the cycle move the sun.

Roblox realistic lighting settings you can change

Change any of these by asking in plain words, or open the script and edit the value yourself. Each prompt is one undo step, so you can try a value and go back.

Brightness
About 2.5.
ClockTime
About 16.5, late afternoon.
Atmosphere
Density 0.3, Offset 0.25, Haze 1.5, with a warm color.
Bloom and SunRays
Bloom intensity 0.6 with threshold 1.5; SunRays intensity 0.1.
ColorCorrection
Saturation 0.1 and contrast 0.05.

Fixing realistic lighting in Roblox

It looks the same

Check the graphics quality in Studio. At low quality many effects are reduced.

Too much glow

Ask for less bloom; only the Bloom effect changes.

Too foggy

Ask for less haze. Atmosphere density and haze go down.

Lighting technology did not change

Some Lighting properties, such as Technology, may be read-only for scripts. The AI leaves them alone; set them yourself in the Properties window.

Shadows look blocky

Soft shadows depend on the ShadowSoftness value and on the lighting technology your place uses. Ask for softer shadows, and check the Technology setting in the Lighting properties.

More realistic lighting ideas to try

Once the basic version works, send one of these as your next prompt. Each builds on what is already in your place.

“Make it look like a foggy morning.”

Raises Atmosphere density and haze, lowers brightness and moves the clock to early morning.

“Make it a spooky night.”

Moves the clock to night, darkens the ambient colors and adds a cold tint with ColorCorrection.

“Make the colors pop like a cartoon.”

Raises saturation and contrast in ColorCorrection and reduces haze.

“Add a sky with clouds.”

Adds Clouds to Terrain and adjusts their cover and density.

Where it goes in Explorer

  • Lighting / properties such as Brightness, ClockTime, GlobalShadows and ShadowSoftness
  • Lighting / Atmosphere, SunRays, Bloom and ColorCorrection
  • Workspace / Baseplate with the Grass material, or Terrain if you asked for terrain grass

Script names can differ a little; the AI names things to fit your game and tells you what it added.

Tips for a good prompt

Select the object first, or mention it with @, so the AI changes the right thing. Say what the player should see and feel, not how to script it: “the parts should fly a little and spin” works better than naming functions.

Ask for one change at a time and press Play in between. If something is off, describe what you saw, like “it only works once” or “the pieces go through the floor”. If a change goes the wrong way, press Ctrl+Z once and try different words.

Scripting it by hand vs. with AI

By hand you would set a dozen Lighting properties and add four effects, then tweak them until they look right. The plugin applies a tested starting point in one step, and every value stays a normal property you can adjust.

Before you start

You need Roblox Studio on Windows or macOS and the free Roblox AI Game Maker plugin, connected to your account with an 8 character code. New accounts get 2 credits and a free model you can use every day. A typical prompt on a cheap model costs a few hundredths of a credit, and the AI play-tests and fixes errors as part of the same build. Write in any language; the AI answers in the same one.

Realistic lighting FAQ

Will it slow my game down?

These effects are standard and run on all devices. Players on low graphics settings automatically see a lighter version.

Can I undo it?

Yes. Each prompt is one undo step in Studio, so Ctrl+Z puts the old lighting back.

Does it work with my existing map?

Yes. It only changes Lighting, its effects and the baseplate material, so your parts, models and scripts are not touched.

What is the difference from the day and night cycle?

Realistic lighting is a one-time look you set while editing. A day and night cycle moves the time during play. Many games use both: lighting for the look, the cycle for the sun.

Can I get a different style, like cartoon or horror?

Yes. Describe the style and the AI picks different values for the same effects, for example more saturation for cartoon or darker ambient light for horror.
