How to make an axe tool in Roblox

A good tool feels instant: press 1 and it is in your hand, click and it swings. The plugin builds the axe model, the equip key, the swing and the server check that applies damage.

The axe on key 1 prompt

Select the object in Studio first (or mention it with @), then send this. Change any words you like before sending.

Then keep talking to it

  1. 2Auto equip it when I spawn.
  2. 3Make the swing faster.
  3. 4Add a chop sound when it hits a tree.

What the AI builds

  • An Axe Tool in StarterPack with a wooden handle and a metal head
  • A LocalScript for the 1 key, hotbar hiding and the swing
  • A RemoteEvent and server Script that check range before damaging trees

How it works

Key presses are read on the client with UserInputService, which equips or unequips the tool. The default backpack bar is hidden with SetCoreGuiEnabled.

The swing is done by tweening the tool's Grip, so no animation asset is needed and it works with every avatar rig.

When you click, the client only tells the server "I swung". The server finds trees in front of you within reach and applies damage, so the client cannot pick its own target.

How to make an axe tool in Roblox, step by step

  1. 1

    Send the prompt

You do not need a model first. The AI builds the axe from parts: a wooden handle, a grey metal head and a lighter blade edge, welded together so they move as one. It goes into StarterPack as a Tool named Axe.

  2. 2

    Check the grip

The tool's Grip is set so your hand holds the lower part of the handle instead of the middle. Press Play and look at your character: the head should sit above your hand and point to the side.

  3. 3

    Press 1 to equip

A LocalScript listens for the 1 key. Press it once to hold the axe and again to put it away. The default hotbar at the bottom of the screen is hidden, so the key is the only way to equip it.

  4. 4

    Click to swing

Clicking swings the axe by tilting its grip forward and back, a quick chop in about a third of a second. A short cooldown stops players from spamming clicks.

  5. 5

    Hit something

On each swing the client only tells the server that it swung. The server looks for tagged trees within about 7 studs in front of the player and lowers their Health attribute. When Health reaches zero the tree breaks.

Roblox axe on key 1 settings you can change

Change any of these by asking in plain words, or open the script and edit the value yourself. Each prompt is one undo step, so you can try a value and go back.

Equip key
Key 1 by default. Ask for E, Q or any other key.
Swing speed
0.12 seconds forward and 0.18 seconds back. "Make the swing faster" shortens both.
Cooldown
0.4 seconds between swings. Lower it for faster chopping, raise it for heavier weapons.
Reach
About 7 studs in front of the player, checked on the server.
Damage
Subtracted from the target's Health attribute on each hit. Ask for more swings per tree by raising the tree's Health.

Fixing axe on key 1 in Roblox

The axe looks like a stick

The head and blade are separate parts welded to the handle. If they are missing, they were probably not welded and fell away. Ask the AI to check the welds on the Axe tool.

My character holds it in the wrong place

The hand position comes from Tool.Grip. Say "hold it lower" or "rotate the head forward" and the AI adjusts the grip values.

The swing does nothing on my avatar

Scripts that rotate the shoulder joint do not work on current R15 avatars, because those joints are AnimationConstraints. This swing tweens the Grip instead, so it works on every rig.

Hitting a tree does not damage it

The server only damages tagged trees in front of you and in range. Make sure the tree has the BreakableTree tag and a Health attribute, or ask the AI to connect the axe to your trees.

More axe on key 1 ideas to try

Once the basic version works, send one of these as your next prompt. Each builds on what is already in your place.

“Auto equip the axe when I spawn.”

Calls EquipTool when the character is added, so the axe is already in hand when the game starts.

“Make the axe golden and a bit bigger.”

Changes the colors, materials and sizes of the three parts and adjusts the grip so the hand still sits on the handle.

“Add a pickaxe on key 2 that breaks rocks.”

Builds a second tool with the same pattern: a key, a grip swing and a server check, aimed at rocks tagged for mining.

“Show a small health bar over a tree while I chop it.”

Adds a BillboardGui that reads the tree's Health attribute and shrinks with each hit.

Where it goes in Explorer

  • StarterPack / Axe (Tool) with Handle, Head and Blade parts and WeldConstraints
  • StarterPlayer / StarterPlayerScripts / AxeKey (LocalScript)
  • Axe / Swing (LocalScript), ReplicatedStorage / Chop (RemoteEvent), ServerScriptService / AxeServer (Script)

Script names can differ a little; the AI names things to fit your game and tells you what it added.

Tips for a good prompt

Select the object first, or mention it with @, so the AI changes the right thing. Say what the player should see and feel, not how to script it: “the parts should fly a little and spin” works better than naming functions.

Ask for one change at a time and press Play in between. If something is off, describe what you saw, like “it only works once” or “the pieces go through the floor”. If a change goes the wrong way, press Ctrl+Z once and try different words.

Scripting it by hand vs. with AI

A hand-made version needs three welded parts with sizes and colors that read as an axe, a Grip offset, a LocalScript for the key, a call to hide the default backpack, a Grip tween for the swing, a RemoteEvent and a server script that checks range before damaging anything. Getting the grip right alone usually takes a few tries. The plugin does it from one prompt and leaves every piece where Roblox expects it.

Before you start

You need Roblox Studio on Windows or macOS and the free Roblox AI Game Maker plugin, connected to your account with an 8 character code. New accounts get 2 credits and a free model you can use every day. A typical prompt on a cheap model costs a few hundredths of a credit, and the AI play-tests and fixes errors as part of the same build. Write in any language; the AI answers in the same one.

Axe on key 1 FAQ

Can I use my own animation?

Yes. Paste your animation id and ask the AI to play it on swing instead of the Grip tween.

Why not rotate the shoulder joint?

Current R15 avatars use AnimationConstraint joints, so scripts that tween a shoulder Motor6D do nothing. Tweening the Grip works everywhere.
