How to make a main menu in Roblox
A main menu makes a game feel real from the first second. The plugin builds a title screen in your game's style with Play, Controls and Credits, a scenic camera behind it and a clean hand-off to gameplay.
The main menu prompt
Select the object in Studio first (or mention it with @), then send this. Change any words you like before sending.
Then keep talking to it
- 2Make it match a cozy forest vibe.
- 3Add a fade when I press Play.
- 4Put the controls on the menu.
What the AI builds
- A MainMenu ScreenGui with title, buttons and panels
- A LocalScript for buttons, panels and the camera
- Scale-based sizes that fit phones
How it works
While the menu is open the camera is fixed on a scenic view. Pressing Play hides the menu and hands the camera back to the player.
Controls and Credits open small panels with text, closed with the same button.
All sizes use scale, so the menu fits phones, tablets and PCs.
How to make a main menu in Roblox, step by step
- 1
Send the prompt
The AI builds a MainMenu ScreenGui in StarterGui with a full-screen background, your game's title, a subtitle and Play, Controls and Credits buttons. It reads your place first, so the title and wording fit the game you are making rather than a generic template.
- 2
Match the style
Colors and fonts follow your game's mood. A forest game gets dark green and cream text, a horror game would get dark tones and a sharp font; you can describe the vibe you want, such as cozy, neon or retro, and the AI picks colors, gradient and font to match.
- 3
Press Play
When you join, the camera is fixed on a scenic view behind the menu, aimed at open sky or the map from above so it does not start inside a tree or a wall. Buttons have rounded corners, outlines and a hover effect that works with a mouse; on phones they respond to taps.
- 4
Open Controls and Credits
Each button opens a small panel with text and closes it again on a second click.
- 5
Start the game
Press Play in the menu. The menu tweens away, the camera type goes back to Custom and the camera follows your character again. The menu does not come back when you respawn, only when you join the game.
Roblox main menu settings you can change
Change any of these by asking in plain words, or open the script and edit the value yourself. Each prompt is one undo step, so you can try a value and go back.
- Title and subtitle
- TextLabels with a bold font and an outline.
- Buttons
- TextButtons with UICorner, UIStroke and a hover tween.
- Camera view
- A fixed Scriptable camera while the menu is open.
- ResetOnSpawn
- Off, so the menu shows once per join.
- Sizes
- Scale-based so the menu fits phones and PCs.
Fixing main menu in Roblox
The camera stays frozen after Play
The camera must be handed back to the character. Ask the AI to check the Play button.
A panel is empty
Labels inside panels need a real size. Ask the AI to fix the panel's text size.
The camera is inside a tree
Ask the AI to point the menu camera at open sky or a view from above.
The menu is cut off on phones
Ask the AI to use scale-based sizes or add a UIScale.
The Play button does nothing
The button's click is handled by the LocalScript inside the menu. If the script was disabled or moved out of the ScreenGui, nothing happens. Ask the AI to check the menu script.
More main menu ideas to try
Once the basic version works, send one of these as your next prompt. Each builds on what is already in your place.
“Add a Settings button with a music volume slider.”
Adds a third panel with a slider that sets the volume of a sound group.
“Make the camera slowly pan across the map behind the menu.”
Tweens the fixed menu camera between two views while the menu is open.
“Add a loading bar before the menu shows.”
Adds a short loading screen that waits for the game to load, then fades into the menu.
“Show the player's name under the title.”
Adds a label that reads the local player's DisplayName.
Where it goes in Explorer
- StarterGui / MainMenu (ScreenGui) with IgnoreGuiInset on and ResetOnSpawn off
- MainMenu / background Frame with a UIGradient, title, subtitle, buttons and the Controls and Credits panels
- MainMenu / MenuController (LocalScript) that handles buttons, panels and the camera
Script names can differ a little; the AI names things to fit your game and tells you what it added.
Tips for a good prompt
Select the object first, or mention it with @, so the AI changes the right thing. Say what the player should see and feel, not how to script it: “the parts should fly a little and spin” works better than naming functions.
Ask for one change at a time and press Play in between. If something is off, describe what you saw, like “it only works once” or “the pieces go through the floor”. If a change goes the wrong way, press Ctrl+Z once and try different words.
Scripting it by hand vs. with AI
A menu by hand means building a ScreenGui, styling labels and buttons, writing panel toggles and handling the camera before and after Play. The plugin builds all of it in your game's style from one prompt.
Before you start
You need Roblox Studio on Windows or macOS and the free Roblox AI Game Maker plugin, connected to your account with an 8 character code. New accounts get 2 credits and a free model you can use every day. A typical prompt on a cheap model costs a few hundredths of a credit, and the AI play-tests and fixes errors as part of the same build. Write in any language; the AI answers in the same one.
Main menu FAQ
Can I use my own logo?
Paste your image id and ask the AI to put it above the title.
Will the menu show every time players respawn?
No. It is set not to reset on spawn, so it only appears when they join.
Does the menu stop players from moving before they press Play?
The menu covers the screen and holds the camera on a fixed view. Ask the AI to also freeze the character until Play if your game needs it.
Can I add more buttons?
Yes. Ask for Settings, Shop or any other button and the AI adds it in the same style, with its own panel.
