How to make coins in Roblox
Coins give players a reason to explore. The plugin scatters spinning coins, counts them on the leaderboard and brings each coin back after a few seconds.
The coin pickups prompt
Select the object in Studio first (or mention it with @), then send this. Change any words you like before sending.
Then keep talking to it
- 2Make gold coins worth 5.
- 3Add a pickup sound.
- 4Show a coin counter on screen.
What the AI builds
- Coin parts tagged Coin
- leaderstats.Coins
- A server Script for pickups and respawns, and smooth client-side spinning
How it works
Coins spin on the client so the motion is smooth, while pickups are checked on the server so nobody can fake coins.
When touched, a coin adds its value to the player's Coins stat, hides itself and comes back after the respawn time.
Each coin's value is an attribute, so special coins are just a different number.
How to make coins in Roblox, step by step
- 1
Send the prompt
The AI makes small gold cylinders standing on their edge, tags them Coin and scatters them around your map. They are anchored and do not collide, so players walk through them.
- 2
Check the leaderboard
Press Play. A Coins value appears for each player. Every coin has a Value attribute, 1 by default.
- 3
Pick one up
Touch a coin. The server adds its value to your Coins, hides the coin and turns off touching so it cannot be counted twice. After 10 seconds it comes back.
- 4
Watch them spin
Coins spin on each player's own device, which looks smooth and keeps the server free. Pickups still happen on the server, so nobody can give themselves coins.
- 5
Make them worth more
Ask for gold coins worth 5, a pickup sound, or an on-screen counter. A sound needs an audio id from you, so the AI leaves it empty until you give one. Coins and the Coins value can later feed a shop, a door that opens at 100 coins or an upgrade, all with the same leaderstat.
Roblox coin pickups settings you can change
Change any of these by asking in plain words, or open the script and edit the value yourself. Each prompt is one undo step, so you can try a value and go back.
- Value
- An attribute on each coin, 1 by default. Special coins only need a different number.
- Respawn time
- 10 seconds in the default prompt.
- Spin
- Done in a LocalScript in StarterPlayerScripts every frame.
- Look
- Gold Neon or Metal, standing on its edge. Ask for another color or size.
- Coin tag
- Every part with the Coin tag is a coin, including ones you add later.
Fixing coin pickups in Roblox
Coins do not spin
The spin runs on the client. Check that the LocalScript is in StarterPlayerScripts and that the coins have the Coin tag.
One touch gives many coins
The coin hides itself and turns off CanTouch on pickup. If you copied coins from elsewhere, ask the AI to check their debounce.
Coins never come back
The respawn uses a delay after pickup. If a coin was destroyed by another script it cannot come back; ask the AI to check.
Coins fall through the map
Coins should be anchored. Ask the AI to anchor every tagged coin.
The Coins value is missing from the leaderboard
leaderstats has to be a Folder named exactly leaderstats inside each Player, created when they join. If another script already makes leaderstats, ask the AI to add Coins to that folder instead of making a second one.
More coin pickups ideas to try
Once the basic version works, send one of these as your next prompt. Each builds on what is already in your place.
“Make a rare gold coin worth 10.”
Adds a few larger coins with a higher Value attribute and a different color.
“Put a line of coins along the obby path.”
Places coins at regular spacing along the parts you select.
“Add a shop that sells a speed boost for 50 coins.”
Builds a shop button that checks Coins on the server, subtracts the price and raises WalkSpeed.
“Show coins as a counter on screen.”
Adds a ScreenGui that reads the Coins value and updates when it changes.
Where it goes in Explorer
- Workspace / Coins (Folder) with coin parts tagged Coin and a Value attribute
- Players / each player / leaderstats / Coins (IntValue)
- ServerScriptService / Coins (Script), StarterPlayer / StarterPlayerScripts / CoinSpin (LocalScript)
Script names can differ a little; the AI names things to fit your game and tells you what it added.
Tips for a good prompt
Select the object first, or mention it with @, so the AI changes the right thing. Say what the player should see and feel, not how to script it: “the parts should fly a little and spin” works better than naming functions.
Ask for one change at a time and press Play in between. If something is off, describe what you saw, like “it only works once” or “the pieces go through the floor”. If a change goes the wrong way, press Ctrl+Z once and try different words.
Scripting it by hand vs. with AI
Hand-written coins need a model, tags, a leaderstats value, a server Touched handler with a debounce, a hide and respawn timer and a client spin loop. Each piece is simple, but there are several to wire up. The plugin builds them together and keeps values as attributes.
Before you start
You need Roblox Studio on Windows or macOS and the free Roblox AI Game Maker plugin, connected to your account with an 8 character code. New accounts get 2 credits and a free model you can use every day. A typical prompt on a cheap model costs a few hundredths of a credit, and the AI play-tests and fixes errors as part of the same build. Write in any language; the AI answers in the same one.
Coin pickups FAQ
Can I spend the coins?
Yes. Ask for a shop or an upgrade button and the AI uses the same Coins stat.
Do coins work on mobile?
Yes. Pickups are touch based, so walking into a coin works on every device.
How many coins can I place?
Hundreds. All coins share one server script and one client spin loop, so adding more does not add more scripts.
Can coins be collected by touching with a tool?
Pickups use Touched on the coin, so any part of the character counts. Ask the AI if you only want the character's body to collect them.
