One prompt mechanic

How to make a pet that follows you in Roblox

Pets that follow you around are a staple of simulators. The plugin builds a small pet from parts, attaches it to each player when they spawn and keeps it floating behind them.

The pet follow prompt

Select the object in Studio first (or mention it with @), then send this. Change any words you like before sending.

Then keep talking to it

  1. 2Make the pet bob up and down.
  2. 3Give me two pets side by side.
  3. 4Make the pet face where I walk.

What the AI builds

  • A pet model in ReplicatedStorage/Pets
  • AlignPosition and AlignOrientation constraints on each player's pet
  • A client bob animation

How it works

When a character spawns, the server clones the pet and links it to the character with alignment constraints, so it follows smoothly without scripts moving it every frame.

Pet parts are massless and do not collide, so they never trip the player. The player's client owns the pet's physics for lag-free movement.

The bob is a looping tween on the client, which keeps the server light.

How to make a pet that follows you in Roblox, step by step

  1. 1

    Send the prompt

The AI builds a small pet from parts and saves it in ReplicatedStorage in a Pets folder. Or select your own pet model and ask the AI to use it.

  2. 2

    Spawn with your pet

Press Play. When your character spawns, the server clones the pet into it and links it to your HumanoidRootPart with an AlignPosition and an AlignOrientation, offset behind and to the side.

  3. 3

    Walk around

The pet follows smoothly because the constraints pull it toward its spot instead of a script teleporting it each frame. Its parts are massless and do not collide, so it never trips you.

  4. 4

    Watch it bob

A LocalScript moves the pet's attachment up and down between 0.8 and 1.4 studs in a gentle loop. It runs on your device, so the server does no extra work.

  5. 5

    Change it

Ask for two pets side by side, a different offset or a faster follow. Responsiveness controls how tightly the pet keeps up: a high value keeps it glued to its spot, a low value makes it drift and catch up, which feels more like a floating companion.

Roblox pet follow settings you can change

Change any of these by asking in plain words, or open the script and edit the value yourself. Each prompt is one undo step, so you can try a value and go back.

Offset
About 2 studs to the side, 1 up and 3 behind the player.
Responsiveness
Around 15. Higher follows tighter, lower floats more.
Bob range
0.8 to 1.4 studs, with a Sine tween that reverses.
Network owner
Set to the player so movement looks smooth on their screen.
Pet model
Any model with a PrimaryPart in ReplicatedStorage/Pets.

Fixing pet follow in Roblox

The pet lags behind

Raise Responsiveness, or check that the pet's network owner is the player.

The pet pushes me

Every pet part should be Massless with CanCollide off. Ask the AI to check your pet model.

The pet is not there after I reset

Pets are added when a character spawns. If another script clears the character, it may remove the pet too.

My pet model falls apart

Pet parts need to be welded to the PrimaryPart. Ask the AI to weld your pet model.

The pet spins or flips around

AlignOrientation keeps the pet turned the same way as the player. If the pet's PrimaryPart faces another direction, the whole pet looks turned. Ask the AI to rotate the pet so its front faces forward.

More pet follow ideas to try

Once the basic version works, send one of these as your next prompt. Each builds on what is already in your place.

“Give the pet a name tag above its head.”

Adds a BillboardGui to the pet with a name you choose.

“Let me choose between three pets.”

Adds more models to the Pets folder and a small menu to pick one; the server swaps the pet when you choose.

“Make the pet sparkle.”

Adds a ParticleEmitter with a low rate to the pet's main part.

“Make the pet sit when I stop walking.”

Lowers the pet's offset when your character's speed drops to zero, and raises it again when you move.

Where it goes in Explorer

  • ReplicatedStorage / Pets / your pet model with a PrimaryPart
  • Each character / the pet clone with AlignPosition and AlignOrientation
  • ServerScriptService / Pets (Script), StarterPlayer / StarterPlayerScripts / PetBob (LocalScript)

Script names can differ a little; the AI names things to fit your game and tells you what it added.

Tips for a good prompt

Select the object first, or mention it with @, so the AI changes the right thing. Say what the player should see and feel, not how to script it: “the parts should fly a little and spin” works better than naming functions.

Ask for one change at a time and press Play in between. If something is off, describe what you saw, like “it only works once” or “the pieces go through the floor”. If a change goes the wrong way, press Ctrl+Z once and try different words.

Scripting it by hand vs. with AI

Doing it by hand means building or importing a pet, setting up attachments and alignment constraints, making the parts massless, setting network ownership and writing a bob tween. The plugin handles each of these steps from one prompt.

Before you start

You need Roblox Studio on Windows or macOS and the free Roblox AI Game Maker plugin, connected to your account with an 8 character code. New accounts get 2 credits and a free model you can use every day. A typical prompt on a cheap model costs a few hundredths of a credit, and the AI play-tests and fixes errors as part of the same build. Write in any language; the AI answers in the same one.

Pet follow FAQ

Can I use my own pet model?

Yes. Select your model and ask the AI to use it as the pet.

Can pets give boosts?

Yes. Ask for a boost and the AI adds it as an attribute the rest of your game can read.

Will the pet follow me in every game mode?

The pet is added each time your character spawns, so it follows you after resets and respawns as well.

Does the pet work on mobile?

Yes. The follow runs on physics constraints and a small client tween, which work the same on phones, tablets and PCs.
